Record the RGA!
Dear Members, the RGA Website and Archive is looking for any work that reflects the RGA's activities. So if you have any existing works or fancy creating something during our 90th year, I’d love to see them. Please send to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We were sad to hear that Eric Stanford, Honorary Life Member of the RGA and former President 2001-2010, died recently after a long illness.
Eric and his wife Helen joined in 1958, playing an important part within the RGA.
Our thoughts and best wishes are with his wife Helen and their family.
There will be a Celebration of Eric's life, at Devizes Town Hall. This has been moved to Saturday 19th September. Please contact the family email@example.com if you are going to attend.

Postponed until further notice following government advice on coronavirus
We have positions vacant. Please consider volunteering to help run the RGA, it's a great way to meet fellow members, learn about the art community in Reading and get involved.
Carole P. and Carole S. have come to the end of their 3 years on the RGA Council as Councillors, although both have served for many years previously in a variety of roles. We thank them both for all their hard work, drive and support.

The RGA is running Experimental Drawing workshop sessions at Reading Museum, organised by RGA member Lorna Webber
It is aimed at Art Students (GCSE+) and Adult Learners
17 April 10:30 -12:30 and/or 13:30 - 15:30
As of 17 Mar 2020, following government advice, Reading Museum is closed to the public until further notice.
We hope to reschedule this event for the autumn.
We need RGA members to help guide the drawing activities.
Activities could include:
- exploring mark-making, tonal and textural effects;
- strategies for more accurate drawing (construction lines, measuring, negative shapes, looking for simple shapes);
- blind and semi-blind contour drawing;
- the power of the line (varied line weight, optical connections with broken line);
- finding the light (working on black paper with white conte);
- gestural drawing (finding the 'direction' of the object(s);
- cross-contour drawing;
- reducing number of lines (depict the subject with 4 lines only, then 3 lines, then 2 and finally, just one);
- 'pushing' the form with tone, using side of oil pastel, (a darker mark is made where the form turns away from the viewer).
You may well have more ideas! The only restriction is to use 'dry, non-dusty' materials only. Biros and pens are fine, but not dip pens.
Lorna has booked a number of "Museum Boxes", which are artefacts or sets of items, most of which are on the museum's current theme of "animals".
Please contact Lorna to volunteer or for more details: LornaWebberVipond@gmail.com
Sadly the Summer Show has been cancelled due to planned building works at the University of Reading.
