The RGA at the REME Museum of Technology

Exhibition at Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Museum ran January to May 2013.

This exhibition grew from a summer painting day organised for the RGA by Hilary Parkinson. The series of locations for the midweek outings was entitled “Something Different”. This it certainly was, not the soft lines and bright colours of gardens and woods but the hard and intricate qualities of engineered machinery, mostly in camouflage green and yellow. The artists who attended had an interesting challenge on their hands.
The results of the day were so good that I forwarded some of them to the museum curator who immediately responded with an offer of an exhibition opportunity in their small but nicely set up exhibition area. The artists returned during the winter for another session, the cold weather was a bit of a test but focused our minds on the qualities of the museum exhibits. The final work which was hung ranges from monoprints to work in ink and collage, to pure watercolour and gives great publicity for the RGA.

RGA 83rd Annual Exhibition ‘Light Fantastic’

Sat 13th to Tue 23rd April 2013

Old Fire Station Gallery, 66 Market Place, Henley RG9 2AG.

RGA 83rd Annual Exhibition ‘Light Fantastic’ was officially opened by the Mayor of Henley, Mrs Elizabeth Hodgkin, on a warm sunny afternoon 14th April 2013.

The assessor for this year's Marie Dyson Award was Pat Eastop MBE, Chair of the West Berkshire and North Hampshire Open Studios. The winner was Chris Mercier, with "Three Blind Mice".

One of our main focuses at the moment is establishing a "home" for the RGA; a place is needed for exhibitions, meetings, and workshops central to Reading for the members and other groups.
