RGA Summer Show 2015

The Reading Guild of Artists came back to the University of Reading for a Summer Show of workshops, activities and exhibition: Thu 18th - Fri 26th June 2015

The Mayor of Reading, Sarah Hacker, popped in to the Summer Show on the first day, and Tweeted "...it's well worth a visit"

You'll have noticed something different with our members' exhibition at the Summer Show. Each artist was allocated their own limited wall space, giving them the opportunity to be viewed individually, be more experimental in some cases, and showcase their work as a whole.

In all, 64 artists filled the long main gallery, and alongside them we were pleased to include work by BA Ed Art Year 3 and 4 final year students of the Art department at the Institute of Education.

The majority of work was for sale, as well as unframed work and a wide selection of artist's greeting cards. Several artists were present every day during the exhibition. A series of workshops also ran during the event including: The Drawn Figure with Jenny Halstead, Silkscreen Techniques with Chris Mercier & Emily Gillmor (utilising the University's well-equipped printmaking room), Watercolour Painting with Richard Cave, and Print without a Press with Karen Carter.

RGA Chairman John Pumfrey welcomed all to the Summer Show and thanked Dr Cathie Tissot for officially opening the Show. She was accompanied by head of the Art department, Dr Gill Hopper, to whom we extend our thanks for the invitation to host us here once again, in this beautiful venue. The band “Gazebo” performed for visitors at the Private View.

Many thanks to all those who helped to make this show happen!
