The "Icarus in Thames" pieces were made for a themed RGA exhibition called "Here Comes the Sun – Harrison in Henley". I had Bruegel's "Landscape with Fall of Icarus" very much in mind as I worked, as well as the issue of representing a half sunken corpse with my typical grid based approach.

This work interprets different sites in and around Reading, adapting drawn or photographic appearances with a grid structure. The Oakwoodley piece used a digital drawing transfer before continuing with physical media, whereas the other pieces are entirely analogue.

I use a 12mm grid, often subdivided into 3mm or 4mm, against which the shapes and forms are developed. The 12mm measurement arose from work using credit card dimensions as a compositional tool, and it is the height of a card data stripe.

The palette is limited to Red Oxide, Ultramarine Blue, and Yellow Oxide or Raw Sienna, together with Titanium White.
