Charles is a figurative painter who is fascinated by the human form and the expressive potential of oil paint. His work celebrates the joy of being human in a physical body, placing people in abstract settings to intrigue the eye and play with the perception of depth. He says ‘My aim is not to tell a story but to elicit a smile of recognition from the viewer.’
His practice is built on a foundation of regular life drawing and he likes to introduce graphic elements into his work, using graphite, acrylic markers and oil pastel.
