As a local artist in Caversham, I like to discover the nature or history of a place through its shapes, forms and textures. These range from the rich architectural wood and marble carvings in local historic buildings to the natural forms in the Chilterns. Buildings of the past provide a treasure trove of ceramics, statues and fixtures which I sketch and arrange into dramatic compositions. These I enjoy either painting in water colour or rendering in graphite pencil. Many pieces have been inspired by visits to Stonor Park, Greys Court and Basildon Park.
During lockdown I have enjoyed the many natural visitors to the garden. Squirrels and garden birds have focused my interest in nature and its many shapes and forms.
