Antoinette Brown

Antoinette Brown (b. 1986) is a visual artist who predominately works with graphite to create figurative works on paper. Her practice centres around the intricacies of the human experience and the rhythmic cycles that define life. Through a mix of drawing, painting, and sculpture, she focuses on compositions that illuminate often-overlooked yet profoundly significant moments in time.

In 2020 her practice turned a pivotal point after the birth of her second child and then the decline of her grandmother’s health in 2022. These events ignited a sense of urgency and newfound purpose into her work, propelling her to explore the multifaceted experience of motherhood. Drawing inspiration from personal encounters with her daughters, mother, and grandmother, she has engaged in introspective dialogues that unravel ideas on interconnectedness and interdependent female relationships. From this she sensitively pulls together compositions that embolden the quiet and seemingly insignificant moments of motherhood that gain immense significance as time passes and children grow.
