Susan Cunningham

Susan Cunningham lives in Oxfordshire and studied for an MA in Fine Art at Birmingham City University. Her art practice explores the presence or absence of ‘nature’ within the increasing amount of urban environment we inhabit. This involves documenting her experience as an artist, following the Western tradition of landscape and still life painting from the 18th and 19th centuries. Responses are made by drawing and painting in the open air, creating sketchbooks, and utilising models of landscape, flora, and fauna.

It is an investigative process and asks questions: what is ‘nature’? and how do artists contribute and shape ideas about ‘nature’? The practice is site-specific and embedded in discourses surrounding the construction of landscape and nature.
