Picture of the Month for October 2024 is Sofia by Connell McMenamin. It was chosen from the Members Gallery by Noelia Ríos-García.

I chose this picture because of the artist’s skillful use of light and the soothing tones. It’s interesting how the face looks very realistic while the rest of the painting has less definition, drawing your attention to the lady’s face. The black clothing gives the portrait a sense of a modern take on the traditional portraits of women in black from the 19th century,  adding mystery and depth to her expression.
