Picture of the Month for August 2025 is Strange light by Sue Bridge. It was chosen from the Members Gallery by Calina Lefter.

I was drawn by Sue’s landscape for its compositional simplicity and chromatic complexity. I love the dark, moody, blue sky that creates a sense of depth and distance. I have only seen this strange light in England, likely due to unusually heavy clouds almost touching the ground. I love Sue’s brushstrokes that add texture and movement to the entire work. There’s a clear emphasis on capturing the essence of the landscape rather than fine detail. The dark winding path provides a strong contrast against the green field and draws my eye deeper into the painting.

I find it very expressive and so beautiful!
