
Earley Painters
Earley Painters are untutored sessions hosted by Clare Buchta and Carole Stephens who provide a still-life display to work from. All abilities, newcomers, and non-members are welcome. For further details please contact us.
2025/2026 Programme
| September 16th | Room with a View Inside looking out, still life on an imaginary window sill looking out on distant view through the window. Any safe medium. Referencing the artist Mary Fedden. |
| September 30th | Sail Away A collection of sailing yachts and seagoing items to draw or paint in any safe medium of your choice. Referencing the artist Alfred Wallace. |
| October 14th | Autumn Flowers Autumnal display with emphasis on bold shapes and colour, referencing the artist Emile Nolde. |
| October 28th | Dia de Las Muertas Looking at the Mexican traditional Day of the Dead using gouache and Indian ink wash off technique to create spooky masks and decorative flowers and patterns. Ink/gouache/paper available for those who wish to try this technique. |
| November 11th | Remembrance Landscape and still life display, with inspiration from the war poets and war artists of the two world wars. Any safe medium. |
| November 25th | Vintage Shopping Still life. Back to bygone days to the design and products of the previous century! Any safe medium. |
| December 9th | Heavenly Creatures Create your own Christmas bunting, emphasis on angels from around the world, drawn from many cultures. String scissors, glue and paper available, any safe medium suitable. |
| January 13th | Poster Party Design your own unique posters. The language of Idioms. Using common sayings as a starting point. Some A3/A2 cartridge paper available. Also block letters for text. References are artist Toulouse Letrec, railway posters, seaside posters, pop posters. Any safe medium. |
| January 27th | Winter trees Trees and landscape, stencils,ideas and references available. Tree still life. Any safe medium. |
| February 10th | Crazy Collage Using magazines to create a collage referencing Salvador Dali. |
| February 24th | Sheep and Lambs Still life and reference photos Studying and stylising the shapes of sheep in the natural environment. Referencing the sketches of sculptor Henry Moore. Any safe medium. |
| March 10th | Transport of Delight A still life of cars, lorries, buses, cranes, etc. all in miniature form but a delight to paint and draw and set into a landscape or design. |
| March 24th | Sunshine and Showers Landscape Turner style, watercolour and wax resist. References available. |
| April 7th | Block Printing Make a block print stamp or use ones that are available to create a design, on paper or textile. Cutting tools and block print soft cut available. Textile medium or block print medium available for use with acrylic paints. |
| April 21st | Champagne and Strawberries Join the picnic set as we celebrate the traditional events of summer for the last painting session until September. Any safe medium. |
KEY INFORMATION
Where: Maiden Place Community Centre, Lower Earley, RG6 3EH
When: 1.30 – 4 pm.
£4 per session, cash please payable on the day, no booking required. Parking is available on-site. There is a code entry system at the hall. Please contact us for the code.
What to bring
Please bring your own materials: dry and water-based mediums may be used, such as watercolour, acrylic paints, pen and ink, pencil, and crayons, plus your own preferred supports and sketchbooks. We recommend you also bring along a plastic table covering or newspaper, cloths, or paper towel.
