Picture of the Month for December 2024 is Lockdown – Self Portrait by Mick McNicolas. It was chosen from the Members Gallery by Sri Nambiar.

I love how Mick has fused classic portraiture technique with a contemporary, almost conceptual twist by using the plastic puzzle tile as his canvas. With his gestural brushwork he has created a portrait with powerful expression of personality and mood. The usage of warm tones with a strong red background creates a feeling of intensity which is matched with his gaze.

I would highly suggest checking his instagram page to see his diverse work. My personal favourite being the series of self portraits he has done during the lockdown.
