Picture of the Month for August 2023 is He lay as one who lies & dreams, In a pleasant meadow land by Carole Stephens. It was chosen from the Members Gallery by Helen Lunn who says:

“I love this illustration because of the emotional quality of the piece about being incarcerated in Reading Gaol. The colours are dark in tone and also vibrant. Mixing media creates a textured and rich piece evoking time spent in the Victorian Gaol. I can imagine the cramped conditions for those imprisoned; for me, the work conveys a sinister yet hopeful feeling.”
